ANTARCTICA
EXPEDITION: 28th DEC 08 - 7th JAN 09.
"The world is only tolerable,
because of the empty places in it.
Millions of people,
all struggling and fighting.
but behind them, somewhere,
enormous empty places.
A place, where the spirit can find rest in"
- Doris Lessing.
We embarked our vessel the MV Akademik Sergei Vavilov at Ushuaia on the southernmost tip of Argentina for our expedition through the Beagle Channel out into the Drake Passage for our 2 day voyage south.
The 'Drake Passage' renowned for it's treacherous sea conditions over the centuries would not prove so for us as our voyage to and from Antarctica would ultimately remain calm..great for the other 99 explorers but slightly disappointing for us storm chasers!.
Our trip encompassed the South Shetland Islands and the Peninsula itself to which we discovered wildlife and beautiful natural scenery that few of us could ever have imagined.
We travelled to just south of 65 degrees and a total of 1562 Nautical Miles throughout the expedition.
