NORDFJORDBOTN, NORWAY 10 JANUARY 2023
There was good potential for aurora this evening, but we had to move west away from the cloud cover and light pollution in Tromso.
We headed out just after 18.00 and had about half an hours drive to get to our location where the skies cleared to reveal brief aurora around 20.00, but we decided to head further west into clearer skies just outside Nordfjordbotn where we set up close to a frozen lake.
After about an hours the aurora appeared as we witnessed green bands over our heads streaking east to west.
The aurora lasted until midnight to various degrees, occasionally disappearing from view only to return with grater strength.
Just after midnight cloud began to close in and we decided to call it a night and head back to Tromso. Of course the aurora made one last appearance with strong bands flowing overhead just as we had packed away out gear, causing some of our group to scramble to set up their equipment again in one last attempt to capture the beautiful spectacle.
We eventually arrived back in Tromso around 1.00am, leaving us a few ours sleep before catching our whale watching boat at 8.00.
