SOLAR ECLIPSE, SPAIN 2026

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE, SIGUENZA, SPAIN 12th AUGUST 2026

The partial phase of this eclipse would be visible from many countries around the world, but totality would only be visible from a select few.
One of the countries to experience totality would be mainland north central Spain and its outlying islands, so due to it's location and season we saw Spain as the country we would most likely to be able to view the eclipse in its entirety.

The total phase of the eclipse would be relatively short at only 1m 38.5 secs, but it would prove to be equally as spectacular as previous eclipses we had seen.

We left Madrid quite early as we headed to our location in Siguenza within the line of totality and set up in the grounds of the castle. This would prove to be an ideal viewing point due to its elevation to the surrounding area that provided clear views to the western horizon which would be vital as the eclipse would occur late in the day with the final phase 4 partial phase would continue until after sunset. As the eclipse began it was only 7 degrees above the horizon to the north of west

The partial phase began at 19:35 with totality set to begin at 20:30:12.

The weather in Siguenza was hot around 36 degrees during the day but the skies remained clear throughout the day and as the first partial phase began we had a clear view of the sun as first contact began with the moon arriving from the right of the sun. First contact begins when a small indentation of the sun becomes visible when the moon moves across the photosphere at around the 4 o'clock position
Eventually totality began and was greeted with the cheering of our fellow eclipse chasers, we could see baily's beads the diamond ring and a magnificent corona. Due to the stage of the day the eclipse appeared more orange than those we had previously seen which was beautiful.

All to soon the sun began to reappear from behind the moon as the the partial phase would continue until 20:31:50 when it had dipped below the horizon.

This was a magnificent eclipse.
